A simple GUI with quick and perfect results.
There are none.
Summary
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion introduced an extremely annoying bug that can mangle the order of your desktop icons every time you log out then in again, or when you restart your Mac. This bug was somewhat attenuated with the 10.7.2 update but it has yet to be fully cured. That's where Desktop Saver saves the day. I have it permanently aliased to me desktop. You run it, you decide to either Save or Restore your desktop. It just works. The strategy:Get your desktop exactly how you would like it for daily use. Run Desktop Saver to grab your arrangement and Save it. The next time 10.7 Lion mangles your desktop, run Desktop Saver again and Restore your desktop back again. An alternative AppleScript app for the same purpose is Desktop Icon Memorizer (DIM).
